Is This Yours?

Lost and Found Treasures

I tend to collect things that aren't mine.  No, I'm not a thief.  I'm talking about old "stuff" from antique stores: photos, letters, postcards, graduation invitations, marriage licenses, and the like.  I really don't know why I like them, but the stories they tell do fascinate me.  I find them, buy them, take them home, do some preliminary research on them to try to identify them, and look online to see if a family member is researching that particular ancestor that the item once belonged to.  I look on Ancestry.com's family trees, on forums, on mailing lists, on Findagrave.com, and on Google.  All in hopes of finding someone to return the item(s) to along with the preliminary research that I've done.

For free.  Why?  Because I'm hoping some day, I'll open up my email, and find that someone has found something of my ancestor's, and that they say something like, "Is this yours?  I found it in an antique store.  Would you like it?  It's yours if you want it."

Now wouldn't that be cool?

So on this site, I will periodically post a short "Is This Yours?" post in addition to the hint/tip of the day.  Hopefully one that will come up in Google searches.  However, you can always search my blog/site by surname and/or location and see if, indeed, what I have is yours.  Then contact me, and you can have it if you want it.  If it becomes a way popular thing, then maybe I'll give it its own blog/site.
